Republicans prove they still don’t get it…

The Republicans have proved once again that they still do NOT get it!

Michael Steele, former Maryland lieutenant governor, was elected chairman of the Republican National Committee on Friday.

Michael Steele has been criticized not just for coming from a blue state. But for having a blue state mentality.  He was a member of the “Republican Leadership Council, a group that sought to curb the influence of social conservatives in the party.”

Oh, let’s talk about guns…

“Michael Steele was the only man on the panel to say that he hasn’t a single firearm” (the only one of six not to own a firearm)

This act continues the Republican Party’s move toward the middle. Leaving America with a Leftist and a Centrist party.  The GOP then tosses a few actions toward stuff like “marriage amendments”, etc. Which will just get rescinded either by the courts or legislature.

I have no party.  And I think I will be leaving the Republican party and going Independent very shortly.

  1. As RNC chair, he’s not setting policy, so I don’t think it’s fair to condemn him on that. He’s not voting on issues or writing legislation, so I think it’s worth giving him the benefit of the doubt.

  2. I left the party when McCain got the nomination to be the 2008 candidate. Hell, I didn’t vote for McCain- I voted for Sarah Palin! LOL. But yeah, I registered as a Libertarian last year. (Here in AZ I can still participate in one major party primary.)

I will give him the benefit of the doubt for the meantime. But I am greatly concerned by the fact that it seems the Republicans are failing to stand on principles.

I’m also concerned that he will be forming the agenda and focus (ie: platform) for the Republicans. And that it will be more of the same mediocre middle of the road except on a few already lost moral issues which they’re attack vehemently and lose face on.

Agenda of the Republicans should be:
    > Reduced corruption
    > Fiscal responsibility
    > Smaller government
    > Liberty and individual rights
    > Reform in Washington (ie: single item bill, line item veto for grouped bills, etc)
