How to make (virtual) bullet holes

Today I was working on some logo concepts, in relation to a site I was working on. I had an idea to replace the bullets in N.U.G.U.N. with bullet holes.  (No pun intended.)

Now, I now how to do this in real life. Point firearm at target, pull trigger…instant hole in paper – most of the time.

But how to do this as a digital image?

Well I came across a tutorial online:

Here were the results, now granted. I modified the the result by going with an alternative color schema.

I know the above design needs work. The “The” gets a bit unreadable when small.  It is definitely more of a banner graphic.  But hey, what can I say for an hour or so worth of work. And the entire thing needs to be brightened up a bit – but it’s getting late.
