Castle Doctrines Dies at Rendell’s Hands

I am not really surprised. I had pretty much expected the governor to veto the bill, if for no other reason than spite.

Rendell’s reasoning is the typically skewed logic. Victims should run like prey from predators. I think it’s interesting, as I’ve seen the result of this behavior with my 3 yr old daughter. She ran from a friend’s dog, and the result is she was the only child that the dog chased after.

Predators instinctively chase prey. To demand that citizens flee from criminals, to leap out of their cars, rather than defend themselves, is to ask them to die like prey. There is NO safe retreat when facing a criminal. There may be an opporrtunity for retreat, but it is never safe. Never guaranteed, simply hoped for.

I am hopeful and expectent for this bill to be re-introduced and quickly passed early 2011.
