New Hampshire considering Approval Voting

The geek news site Slashdot has a post on New Hampshire consider an “approval based” voting system. Where you could check all candidates you like.

This could be very interesting in altering the dynamics of voting. And is a change I’d very much like to see come about.

For example, in recent Pennsylvania governor race there were many who preferred Sam Rohrer, but felt that Tom Corbett had a better chance of winning.

Under the alternative of “approval voting” one could cast their vote for both.  It could theoretically allow for greater chance of 3rd party or long-shot candidates.  Best of all, it would totally eliminate the “vote for the lesser of two evils” motif. Rather, you could vote for Bush and Perot…

It will be interesting to see if this passes, and even more interesting to see if it catches on.
