February 3, 2011 – 8:47am “9lbs 4oz”

On Thursday the 3rd of February our second daughter, and third child was born. Zialyn Mei-Aja weighed 9lbs 4oz. And she is quite the adorable one.

She was unique in that she was our first child to be birthed at home. Our prior two children were born at a local hospital. Zialyn was born right in the living room of our new home accompanied by a pair of midwives using a tub birth method.

For those curious, this birth went extremely well. About 6:37am my wife nudged me awake and informed me she was beginning to have regular contractions. Just over 2 hours later our daughter was born. While I might advocate having one’s first child in a hospital; if you’ve had at least one live birth, I’d definitely recommend a home birth.

What environment is better than giving birth and then relaxing in the comfort of your own home.

Zialyn is a derivation of a play on Violin, we originally Ziolin, we altered the spelling after the current spelling proved by far the most popular derivation. Mei is Chinese, meaning little sister or beautiful. Aja is derived from a couple languages, Hindi it means “goat”. Which is the significance in our choosing it. Though we are a bit free in the mis-pronunciation. So all together it translates into “Zialyn beautiful little sister goat”.

Here’s a little fun fact…

All my children’s (and my wife’s) middle names translate to “goat”. At first this was unintentional. With our first daughter it was purely coincidence. But with our son and Zialyn it was very much intentional.

So here is Daddy N.U.G.U.N. with his flock. And for ANYONE wondering … this shepherd owns guns in order to protect his flock of little ones. While shooting may be a fun sport. There is no greater purpose in ownership than to protect my loved ones.

Welcome a future shooter into this world…
