Not the MSG we’re looking for….

Ted Nugent is perhaps one of the more controversial individuals within the NRA’s Board of Directors.  I understand many people are attracted to charged over-the-top rhetoric. But when your statements approach the realm of discussing the “assassination” of a sitting President.

“chop their heads off in November.”  “We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November. Any questions?”

I have no problem with these lines, they clearly point to the election in my eyes. And is in no way a threat.

But this line goes over the top…

“I’ll tell you this right now: If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year,”

It makes us look bad, it hurts our cause. It’s a bad play on the Chess board. And we don’t need that, especially during an election year.  I guess I could write to the NRA Board of Directors asking that such rhetoric be discouraged, or perhaps Ted Nugent not be asked to have such a prominent role in Houston.  But considering that at this time next year, President Obama is likely to still be president. The “Nuge” will either be dead or in jail.

Come on…we can do better than this.  “Common Sense”

UPDATE: It’s been pointed out elsewhere that Ted Nugent was likely referring to an “if Obama comes and tries to take away my guns”, that he’d die before he’d give them up.  And was not intending the statement as a threat to the president. Just a declaration that he won’t tolerate such action. In which case, it was poorly worded.

We still need to use caution in given our enemies any ammunition to use against us. That’s my big point. We make a single mistake and it’s fanned and fed into a 3 alarm fire. So we’ve got to make sure, we don’t make those mistakes.

Who should we replace Ted Nugent with at future NRAAMs?  My vote is for Bruce Willis

“Everyone has a right to bear arms. If you take guns away from legal gun owners, then the only people who have guns are the bad guys.” Even a pacifist, he insists, would get violent if someone were trying to kill him. “You would fight for your life.”
