The Weight of the NRA

Democratic leadership acknowledging that some Democrats will be voting for the holding of Holder in contempt of Congress.

This is interesting, as it is essentially an admission of the NRA’s lobbying strength. And a concession that the Democrat Party will have to allow those Democrat members to vote against Eric Holder.

Why is this monumental? This can potentially cause President Obama’s “executive privilege” decision to backfire on him.  It’s one thing if something looks partisan, 20 Republicans vs 10 Democrats. But mix that up, Democrats and Republicans voting for such a measure in a non-partisan way. And suddenly the game changes. People stop dismissing the issue as merely politics.  There MUST have been something wrong if even Democrats are voting on the issue.
