My daughter turns 5 next month. I think that is an appropriate age to begin lessons of firearms, firearms handling and safety. With a pellet gun or air rifle being the most reasonable tool for instruction. And yes, at this age I expect all handling to be done under an extremely watchful and supervising eye.
Woot has a deal this morning on a Gamo and I decided to take the plunge. I look forward to some fun with my daughter. And a good opportunity to challenge her to grow in maturity. I expect she will have fun. But if she wants to engage in such activities,she will need to show greater maturity all around.
I believe firearms are tools. Not just for hunting, shooting, and self-defense. But for the encouraging of youth in responsibility and wisdom.

Article on Yahoo talking about the increased gun sales leading up to a potential second Obama term. They share a few reasons people believe that the guns sales have increased so much. Of note, they talk about how companies such as Ruger have ran into production capacity issues, even after ramping up production, and have had to decline new ordes as they’ve already exceeded in excess of a million firearm orders.
Two years ago we had ammo shortages, ammo prices skyrocketed. When ammo became available againt the prices dropped slightly but for the most part ammo just became available, it didn’t become much cheaper.
Sure hope we don’t see a similar occurrence with firearms themselves.
